WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO? My name is Alex Foltz. I live in Augusta, and I’m an oil painter and portrait artist.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. I typically start by roughing out my ideas digitally. If it’s necessary, I’ll set up a photoshoot, and from there I go straight to work in the studio, using alla prima or wet-on-wet process with my paints. It allows for smooth blending and bold brushwork.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU? Anything that I find beautiful or haunting.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. I keep my kayak strapped to my car most of the time in case I ever come across a river or creek that looks interesting, which is much more rare than I expected when I first started doing it.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. Easily the community of artists that I’ve met here.
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? I couldn’t not do it if I tried. It’s therapeutic, rewarding, and limitless.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? Just keep it up, and don’t forget why you started.
