WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
My name is Art Abdon. I was born in Hawaii, grew up in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia area). I later moved to Georgia, and retired from the military in the Augusta area.
I am an artist, painter, muralist, and digital comic book illustrator.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I start drawing and painting the subject on canvas, then I take the image and digitally enhance it on the iPad to create artwork with more effects. I print my images on to posters, large and small, stickers, and other products.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
What inspires me to paint are subjects from all types of music and the musicians behind the music. I love doing fan art from sci-fi movies especially anything Star Wars. Other things I like to paint are about family and spiritual themes.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
Fun fact and not so fun fact about me:
I am an artist that is partially colorblind, so I may use bold primary colors or mostly black and white in my artwork.
I was hospitalized when I was 4 yrs old, because of a gunshot wound to the right leg, so I spent a lot of time alone in the hospital recovering, and drawing and creating while I was there.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
My favorite parts of downtown are the creative spaces. The Georgia Cyber Center and theClubhou.se, where I spend most of my time getting my artwork done, and interacting with other creatives. The other spots are the great restaurants around the area. The Humanitree House has both good food and awesome creatives to hang out with when they have their events!
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
Designing and creating is one way I like to relax. I like to design and create for myself and for others. I love to see peoples reactions when they see some of the things I have drawn.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Keep doing what you love, never stop creating, and stay encouraged. The best way to stay encouraged is to find your community/tribe so you can continue to lift each other up.
