WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
We are Courtney and Nico Bernal, owners of Augusta Pop Company! You can find our cart set up all across Augusta, wherever people need to cool off! When we’re not slinging pops we’re full time high school teachers in Columbia County.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
Each of our pops are handmade in Augusta by us! We work with Augusta Locally Grown to source as much of our produce from small farmers as possible.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
We’re inspired by the city of Augusta itself! Augusta is such a great place to live and when we founded our business we hoped to bring sweet treats to the streets of Augusta.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
Fun fact about Courtney is that she is a lifelong resident of Augusta! Fun fact about Nico is that he spent 4 years working as a Wildland Firefighter in Burke county.
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
We love the feel and energy of downtown. The beautiful buildings, the wide sidewalks, and the people all make the city feel so welcoming. Almost everytime we’re downtown, selling popsicles or not, we run into friendly and welcoming people that we have conversations with even though we’re total strangers!
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
We love to create because we put a little of ourselves into every pop! The brainstorming, experimentation, and creation phases all allow us to express ourselves in ways we can’t on a daily basis.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
I would advise everyone to simply make what they like, or find interesting. That passion and interest carries through to your work, no matter the medium!
