I was born in AZ, but because my Dad is a retired Army Veteran, I am transplanted here in the CSRA. I am a Leather Designer. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. I design, cut, stitch, and dye everything by hand. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? My Granddad inspires me. He is a self-taught Leather-man, and because of his amazing work, I’ve aspired to be just as good one day. He has taught me so much! FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. I’m always experimenting with things, that drives my Mom a little crazy. She is very supportive, but that’s why I chose my business name because our whole garage is my “lab”. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. I love all the restaurants, and events supporting the arts throughout the year. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? I like the process of my thoughts and ideas becoming real creations, this is how I express myself, and have a sense of accomplishment. FAIRLANE SUNRISE Family run business, led by kids (ages 9 & 12). They find and use reclaimed wood to make quality string art items for the home. @fairlanesunrise Meet The Artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO? We are the Stearns family, a local foster family originally from Seattle, Washington. We work together to create string art. Tate, age 12 and Theo, age 10 do most of the work with help from Mom & Dad, as well as input from their younger siblings. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. We use all reclaimed wood that we scout that as a family. Mom and dad cut it, Theo paints it, Tate distresses and nails and Theo strings it. It’s a true collaboration! WHAT INSPIRES YOU? We love seeing new places, nature and meeting new people. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. We have lived in three different countries! We were in Korea for six months and missionaries in Nicaragua for over a year FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. We love to eat at Farmhaus Burger. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? We are Emma Statkus and Maycie Moore from Aiken, SC and we are the business partners of Crafting by Emma and Maycie DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. We research trends and theme ideas and then come up with our designs. We try to think what our customers would like to see, what is trending and what we can do different from other businesses that are like ours. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? We are inspired by shows, artists and other small businesses FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. We like creating art and running our business but besides that, a fun fact is that Emma rides horses and Maycie shoots archery. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. My favorite thing about Downtown Augusta is visiting the marina and Two Dudes and a Boat Kayak and I love how supportive the art community is. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? We love taking a theme ex Taylor Swift, and seeing it come to life through our beads and the best part is seeing our customers wear our jewelry. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? Keep going! I love arts and enjoy fun projects. I started this hobby during the summer to keep myself busy. I made so many bracelets that my Mom mentioned selling them. I started by posting on Facebook and got so many orders, I could barely keep up. I hope you enjoy my jewels, don’t forget I can custom make to your style DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. Start with string and put each bead on by hand. It’s a time consuming, fun process that is stress relieving to me. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? EVANGELINE’S ART DESIGN junior maker – hand-painted watercolored earrings on heavy-weight acid-free paper. Meet The junior maker WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO? My name is Evangeline. I’m a middle school student from right here in Augusta! I’ve enjoyed making and selling homemade items since I was 5 years old. This is the first time I’ve had an opportunity to sell my creations at an official event, so I’m pretty excited! My mom has taught me the essentials about creating, packaging and presenting my product. I’m thrilled to put it all into practice! Thank you, Augusta Handmade Fair for allowing me to participate! DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. I love fashion, so that’s what motivates me to sketch and paint. I wear a lot of my designs too, so whatever colors, patterns or designs I’m smitten with at the moment is what comes from my water color pallet. I’m guilty of creating without end. My design partner (aka “mom”) is the one that nudges me to move the art through the process of becoming a pair of earrings. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? Boutiques, style and my Mimi’s garden. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. The first thing I do in the morning is put on earrings!. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? God made me that way! I also love giving gifts to people. Creating pieces to share with friends brings me joy! WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? I throw so many creations away only to find that my mom has pulled them out of my scrap bin because she thinks they’re beautiful!
