WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
Hi! My name is Sarah and I’m the artist behind Sakura Mochi Co. I’m from North Augusta and have lived here my whole life except for a few years when I lived in Charleston for college. I currently work from home as a front end web developer and love to create when I’m not working. My main creative outlet is digital art, but I love to make jewelry, and work with traditional art forms such as posca and alcohol markers.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
Honestly, I just draw anything that I like! I’m also always working on a few drawings at a time so when I get stuck with one, I can work on another. My drawing process is kind of messy since I don’t always finish my sketch layer before going in with my line art and color, but it always comes together in the end!
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Anything and everything Japanese pop culture, traditional culture, and cute! I love to scroll thru Pinterest for inspiration or draw inspiration from anime I’ve watched and manga I’ve read. I also follow a lot of artists on social media and seeing their art inspires me as well!
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I caught up with One Piece in 4 months! (ifkyk)
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
I love the Saturday Market! I started selling my art there about a year ago and have met so many great people since then. The market is such a wonderful place to grab some food and support local artists!
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
I’ve always loved to draw! I grew up drawing and would like to believe I was one of the first people to draw digitally haha! I used to draw on Microsoft Paint and save my drawings onto floppy disks. Drawing gives me an outlet to express myself and the feeling of accomplishment I get when I finish a piece is an added bonus on top of that.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Trust the process and if you just aren’t feeling it, take a break! Working on multiple drawings (or pieces of art) at once can really help with art block.
