Our Fall Event is on Nov 1st 5-9pm + Nov 2nd from 12-4pm.
WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
Hi! I’m Brittany, the creator of Smoke & Honey Design. Originally from Indianapolis, my husband and I moved to Augusta about a year ago so that he could pursue his dream of becoming and ophthalmologist. When not painting, you can find me gardening, baking bread, or going on walks with my dog, Woodford.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I always begin my creations in my sketchbook. When a new idea comes to me, I like to flesh it out with a pencil and paper. Afterwards, I use my sketch as a guide to create my final watercolor painting. Many of my originals are for sale in my shop!
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Nature and humor are what inspire my art. I love to illustrate the world around me in clever, and often funny ways. That’s the beauty of art, it can both elicit deep, sometimes painful emotions as well as lighthearted, joyful ones. I’m quite a cheery person, so I love to create those bright emotions I feel inside. This world can always use more joy.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I want to author and illustrate children’s books!
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
The Book Tavern. It’s the most majestic bookstore I’ve ever been to!
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
When I’m creating is when I feel happiest and most myself. It’s as if the world around me melts away. Creating is what I was made to do.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Always make room for fun. If you’re an artist who makes art for a living, it can be easy to get burnt out on the very thing that once made you so happy. Make space to create for fun. No agenda, no pressure, just fun.
