Meet The MAKER

WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
Hey yall, I’m Meg. Im a small town girl from deep east Texas. My husband is in the military, so we are always on the move. We lived in Grovetown previously, went to VA for 3 years, and now we are back in Aiken County. Regardless of where the military takes us, the CSRA will always have a special place in our hearts. I’m a stay at home mom to two wonderful girly girls.

DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I custom order most of my fabrics, to ensure the best quality and color pigments. Once it comes in the mail, I lay it out under the projector to cut my patterns. Then piece it all together under my machines. When I’m at my machine, it’s my time to really be alone with the Lord. Every garment has been prayed over and sewn with lots of love!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Seeing the faces of the children light up! I started sewing at a very young age, but took it up again when my daughter was about a year old. Her belly was too big for any clothes to fit appropriately. It was also the style at the time for infants to wear crop tops and belly shirts. You can imagine how hard I struggled to find modest clothing with a big belly baby. That’s when I pulled the machine out and taught myself how to sew on stretchy material. After many trial and errors, I had my first outfit! Now 3.5 years later, I sew clothing on a regular basis. Seeing my daughter light up as she twirls in the dresses makes my heart smile. I can ensure all the clothing is modest, fun colors/designs that my girls will wear, and also bring that excitement to other young children!

FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I love all things medicine. I went to pharmacy school and worked in chemo before Covid hit. The research and development process has always intrigued me. If you have any medicine related questions, I’d love to chat!

FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
The coffee! There’s a variety of coffee shops downtown and a few surrounding. I could spend all day in a coffee shop with a good book and a Bible study.

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
The creative freedom that comes along with designing the garment is part of why I enjoy sewing so much. I used to go into a store and say, “This would be perfect if it was pink” or “These flower designs are beautiful, but the length isn’t what I’m looking for.” That’s no longer an issue. I can order the exact design and create the item we love!

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Ask questions! Some people may get irritated by it, but it’s so essential to learning. By asking those who have gone before you, you’re able to gain knowledge and understanding. Find your mentors and don’t throw in the towel!
