WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
Hi, I’m Jenn, the owner and creator of dynamic vegan dishes in the CSRA. I am originally from the Rochester NY area and loved south in October 2017 so our daughter could attend the College of Charleston. I am a full time speech therapist as well as the owner and chef of Uprooted, Vegan Cusine. Uprooted offers the CSRA’s only mobile all plant-based meal and dessert service. From our customized horse trailer at events to catering, Grab and Go and a weekly meal prep, we can meet all your needs.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
Here at Uprooted we partner with local farmers and producers first. We believe in community over competition and by using what is local to us we support our community who in turn supports our community. We take vegan to a new level, breaking the stereotypes that vegan dining doesn’t satiate you. We offer an everchanging menu because we use what is seasonal. From our signature Bloody Mary Burger and creative tacos to oversized cupcakes and the best peanut butter cookies around at events as well as well-appointed salads, custom cakes and curries. We make all our dishes using the power of plants sourced from local farmers. Most of the menu can be or is designed gluten free or be adapted for other allergens as well because everyone deserves to eat great meals and treats.
We also focus on reducing waste. Using bulk with minimal packaging, reusing boxes and baskets for deliveries, compostable containers and reducing food waste with our partnership with the TooGoodToGo app.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
When i was in high school i dreamt of going to art school but my father wouldn’t let pursue it, instead encouraging me to select a career to make an incline and use art as a passion. I now have proved my father wrong and use food as my medium. I create eye-catching dishes and photos to draw you in because you eat with your eyes first. I draw inspiration for recipes from the world around me, including produce from vendors, current food trends and interactions from customers.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I was diagnosed with renal failure in 2004, became vegan in 2013 to improve my kidney function and bought myself 8 years of quality family time and travel experiences before electing Peritoneal dialysis. I did 17 months before having a kidney transplant in 2019 and started this business only 5mo later during the pandemi
