Handpainted Wooden Peg Dolls.

Meet the Maker:
WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am Mary Beth, wife to Ryan, mom of 3 kids, physical therapist, and peg doll painter. I grew up in the Atlanta area and graduated from Clemson and MCG. I’m happy to be living in North Augusta…back “home” in SC. Go Tigers!
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
I squeeze in painting when I have time during my kids quiet time and after they go to bed. I wish I had a more official process, but for now I just do what I can. It’s fun 🙂
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I get inspiration from lots of different things, but recently I have gotten lots of fun ideas from my kids clothes! Also a lot of my work revolves around Christmas, so I get a lot of inspiration from traditional Christmas “things.”
FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I love to experience different cultures, particularly through international missions trips (although I haven’t done this in years!). In grad school I spent a week living on a boat on the Amazon River in Peru, and in college I spent a summer in Sweden. Both countries and cultures were beautiful!
FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
The Augusta Market!! My family and I spend many of our Saturday mornings there and we love it so much. It’s probably the first real family tradition we have built together!
WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
I think God gave me the gift of creativity and making as a way for me to bear his image in the world. He loves to create, and so do I.
WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
Make what you enjoy making, not just what other people want you to make.
