prints, stickers, and tarot readings

Meet the Artist:

WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?
Hi, my name is Owen Skinner! I’ve lived in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vancouver, and the US. You may have seen me doling out drinks at New Moon Cafe in the wee hours of the morning… I make coffee, paint boxes, read tarot, and draw.

DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.
Lately, I’ve been into painting more than drawing… I’ll go pick out some boxes from Michael’s and paint landscapes on the sides. I have a lot of fun watching painting videos on Instagram.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
I love seeing other painters, especially oil painters! All the local artists (like Jacki Mayo, Jacob Boland, Porkchop, and Kenneth James Benson) are also very encouraging and inspire me.

FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.
I had a phase (like in the past couple months) where I would bake vegan cinnamon rolls about every other day.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.
New Moon Cafe. I love working there and I love all my coworkers.

WHY DO YOU LOVE THE AUGUSTA HANDMADE FAIR?
I always felt like I needed to be apart of this event! Every time I’ve gone in previous years I’ve supporting my friends, but I want to see it from the vendor point of view! I want to put my stuff out there.

WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?
I am a control freak, so making art hits that perfect space between therapy (working around/through mistakes) and practice.

WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?
I know it’s cliche, but keep going?? and try all types of art. Don’t cage yourself into a label like “illustrator” or whatever unless it’s for a resume. Just do what interests you even if you suck.

 COVID-19 Update

The Spring Handmade Fair will be postponed. A new date has not been set yet because things are changing everyday, but it will be rescheduled as soon as possible. We will be promoting the vendors and encourage you to support their small businesses during this difficult season. We can't wait to see you all as soon as we are able. We are praying for health and safety for everyone and their families.
