I work as a full-time entrepreneur formulating and creating health and beauty products that are plant-based, toxin-free and cruelty-free using exotic butters and oils DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.First, I research different plant-based ingredients and study their benefits for the hair, skin and body. After finding ingredients that provide the benefits and results I am looking for for a particular product, I create a formula. I source my top 2 vendors for my supplies and ingredients in different categories ( i.e butters, oils, containers, etc.) and order my supplies. I create the products by hand in my home lab and test the formulation for 3-12 months (depending on the ingredients used). I beta test the products on early adopters, get feedback. When I find the products that my ideal clients like, I create small batches of the product weekly, package products, market and sell! WHAT INSPIRES YOU?The countless stories I hear everyday of ordinary individuals, like me, who have defied all odds and walked out in faith and trusted God to pursue their purpose and have turned what were merely dreams and thoughts, into their reality and helping others do the same. I started this up about a year ago because at a young age I became very interested in learning how things are made. With that mindset, I focused my attention on creating an all-natural line of products. At first, it was to save money. But then, I just really started to enjoy everything about making products and letting other people try them out! Every product is measured out, mixed, and batched by hand. All product labeling, printing, packaging, and shipping is done in one of our guest bedrooms, which my wife and I have turned into a business workspace. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? We are from Spartanburg, SC and make handmade men’s grooming and apparel products in support of local and national suicide prevention organizations. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. I think my process can change some depending on what I am working on. But generally each product begins with some sort of inspiration. For example, our new 2019 Fall/Winter apparel collection started with the positive messages or sayings and that inspired the design of the item. With the grooming products I usually tend to make something that I think I would like to use. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? Right now, it’s people’s stories. We started a new online community for men called The Everyday Sailors as a place for men to share their struggles, wins, inspiration, and encouragement without judgement. The response to the group has been mind blowing. I have sat there and teared up at some of the posts. The guys in this group and the things they are going through really inspire me. It is an innate desire but it took me a long time to realize or accept. I have always created but never thought of myself as a creative person. Now I realize how much joy and fulfillment it brings so I almost always have to be creating in some form or fashion. Choppy Seas is a great outlet for this.
