Artalicious Artworks

ARTALICIOUS ARTWORK Local art @francieklopotic @artaliciousartworks francieklopotic.com Meet The Artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?I was born and raised in East Atlanta Village and moved to Augusta with a job promotion in 2007. I am a self-taught portrait artist who works with acrylics, graphite, colored pencil, oils, and oil pastels. My passion is in creating brightly colored portraiture and artwork influenced by my love of the Pop Art movement. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.My bold and brightly colored work is part illustration and part fine art, pulling elements inspired by the Pop Art movement. I have synesthesia and listen to music while I paint. Sounds are perceived in color and shape. My art reflects this crazy neural condition. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?I am inspired by humankind. People are beautiful creatures, and in my work I aim to bring out the beauty I see in the faces I draw and paint. I’m also inspired by the work of Peter Max, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Alex Katz. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I have synesthesia and see colors in numbers and see and feel shapes/temperature/colors in music. In addition to this, I am a novelist. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.Art on Broad. This art gallery is a welcoming space filled with magical things. The owners are huge supporters of local artists, too. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?I’m obsessed with portraiture. Painting gives me a chance to slow down and meditate. The act of making art is as essential to me as breathing, and nothing gives me as much joy and fulfillment as completing a piece of art. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? No matter how you feel about what you make, keep making. Start getting your work out into the world when your soul tells you to. I like this quote by Andy Warhol: “Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” I am a passionate advocate for artists and particularly enjoy coaching new artists. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE

We make wheel thrown, handmade, functional stoneware that will stand the test of time, microwaves, dishwashers, (and hopefully your own children). DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. Then Blair takes care of the “office work” with a kid or a cat sitting on her head. Every piece is the process of many hands on hours, and much personal love. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? Family and togetherness are huge core values for us. We also love to garden. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. Blair bought David at a date auction because she wanted to learn how to make a mug. That was our first date. The rest is history. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. I can’t get enough of that book store!! WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? VEGA CREATIVE

VEGA CREATIVE City prints, Augusta shirts, and hand stamped jewelry.   Etsy.com/shop/VegaCreativeStudio @vegacreativestudio @vegacreative Meet The Artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO? My name is Anna Simpson. I’m from Tennessee, but live locally now in Augusta while my husband is finishing up his last bit in dental school. I’m a speech pathologist, but love creating happy, colorful watercolor pieces in my free time. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. When I make a new city or design, I really have to be inspired in some way. Usually it’s just through conversations I have with people at markets about their city or by loading up the car on the weekend with Steven and going to a new place. I make sure to ask the locals “where the locals go.” The actual painting process is pretty elementary….No, literally, I use Crayola kids water colors because it’s always the brightest. Normally there’s only one draft even if I “mess up” and I always have candy and a Dr. Pepper nearby to keep my own sugar/happy levels up! The finished product is by no means a masterpiece, but the simple doodles and bumpy lines are special to me. Luckily, other people have appreciated the whimsical and colorful style as well. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? My people – My old people, my new people and the people who may not even know I would consider them as my people. The ones who took a risk on me, the ones who noticed my art before anyone else did, the ones who pulled me aside and said it was something special even when to me, it wasn’t yet. Especially though my mom and dad – they keep me humble. The two people who always taught me how to work hard for what I want, but not to lose sight of the God we serve who will always be more important than any earthly gain. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. My go-to snack is lemons… doused with salt. Did I mention my husband is a dentist? FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. Just getting out and walking and the wide variety of things you’ll see and people you’ll meet. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? People always ask me, “How did you make a successful overnight Etsy shop?” I just smile and wonder if that’s really what people see. Nothing about being successful in this very competitive and talented art industry comes overnight. The strangers only saw the one thing I finally made that others noticed but the people closest to me know that there was hardly a time past diapers that I wasn’t trying my hand at something new. I was just quick to realize when something wasn’t working and I would revise it and try a new slant – almost before others noticed what I only knew as my “failure”. Turns out, as cliche as it may sound, God was stacking those failures on top of each other and eventually gave life to my business. What I mean: My three biggest pursuits were writing, photography and painting. I feel like they finally all came together in a unique way when Vega Creative was born. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE

THIRD EYE CERAMICS

THIRD EYE CERAMICS Handthrown Pottery.   thirdeyeceramics.com @thirdeyeceramics @thirdeyeceramics Meet The Artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO? I am a ceramic artist and entrepreneur located in Augusta, Georgia. I started my business, Third Eye Ceramics, after graduating with a BFA from Augusta University in 2017. The vessels I create are individual and are full of personality. The forms may be similar but their imperfect perfections, characteristics of the maker’s hands, make them uniquely beautiful. I create utilitarian pots and a line of ceramic sculptures that I call my pot people series. I hope that all of my artwork and ceramicware creates a unique aesthetic experience that enriches the lives of whoever experiences them. I also teach classes at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art which allows me an outlet in which to share the joy of this wonderful art craft. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. My process starts on the potter’s wheel where I throw multiple forms. I create objects such as wine glasses, pint glasses, dinner plates, bowls, and more. I decorate my pottery by using techniques like sgraffito or applying stamps that create depth and texture on the surface. I finish my ceramicware with handmade formulated glazes that in conjunction with the surface create unique effects and enhance the aesthetic form. My ceramics sculpture series called Pot People begin by throwing vessels of various shapes and sizes on the potter’s wheel. I sculpt humanoid faces on the surface of the vessel and later attach hand built limbs. These limbs are created to express movement through gesture and creates individuality between sculptures. Once finished, I name these vessels based on what I believe their inner personal individuality represent. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? I explore inspiration in my craft through different avenues of making, thinking, and exploring. My artwork is characterized by influences in my everyday experiences, my childhood during the ’90s, my desire to travel, and interactions made with people. The development of my craft and art making practices are enriched by expeditions I take while traveling to different cities in the United States and traveling abroad to other countries. The connections I made with people during my worldly experiences fosters unique opportunities of learning, sharing, exploring and developing mindfulness. My southern roots and the allure of ceramic face jugs inspired me to create my ceramic sculpture series and improve my craft on the potter’s wheel. My art making practice, exuberated by these unique collective experiences, prevents stagnancy in my artwork and creates moxie in exploring new themes that may arise in my artistic aesthetic. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. Since I was a young child, I knew I wanted to be an artist. It’s amazing to me that I never lost site of my dream no matter how hard some challenges in my life were. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. My favorite thing about downtown is how engaging the arts culture is with the community. I love hearing about new art projects and the strides the city is taking to fund more projects like it. The art in our city has such a positive impact on mental health and well being in our community. I’m grateful that we have a community that wants to engage and explore art as a fundamental part of our development. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? I love creating and developing the surface of my pottery. The more I let go the more I explore and have fun. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? Remember that everything starts with a healthy heart, a open mind, and a sound soul. The process and lifestyle of being an artist is a constant hustle and shouldn’t be rushed. Take everything on step at a time and remember to enjoy the flow, ask for help, and learn every day. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE
