I grew up in Augusta, GA. I have a background in art and design, graduating from GA Tech with a degree in Industrial Design. I went back to school and got a degree in Nursing. I work at Augusta University in the Neuro ICU. I’ve always loved baking, and one day I started decorating cookies, and people started contacting me about buying them. That was the beginning of my little cookie business. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. All of my cookies are custom orders, so it always starts with someone contacting me. My customers are usually ordering for a party, or other special event, so we discuss their ideas and go from there. Sometimes they have very specific requests, other times they give me a theme and let me design something for them. The process takes several days from start to finish, from making the cookie dough, baking, decorating, then packaging. Every order is different and that makes it fun. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? I love following other cookie artists on social media and seeing their amazing art. Because cookies are so customizable, there is infinite inspiration. It is really inspiring to see other people’s amazing and it drives me to keep getting better. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. I’m half Korean, half Polish, and I married a Puerto Rican. I think it’s really fun that my family has become a blend of all these different cultures. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. The food! My family has been eating downtown for years, and it is so exciting to see new restaurants popping up. I really love that all the vacant store fronts are finally starting to fill up WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? I can’t help myself. I always have to be working on a new project! I grew up in the garden, surrounded by wise women and their herbs, and I was fortunate enough to glean all the good bits. I make teas for many reasons; some simply taste amazing and remind me of specific moments in life and others are meant to serve a specific mind/body need (while still tasting like a work of art). I have nearly 100 herbs in stock. What can I make for you? WHAT INSPIRES YOU? I am inspired by the people I meet – plain and simple. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. My 40’s are amazing: I am working on my masters, I am now a single mom, and newly out. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. Everything. Can I say everything? I love the food, the art, the people, the diversity, and the fact that I can’t walk through downtown without running into someone I know. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? I have never seen myself as a creative person, but I have this basic human need to make something; something tangible and concrete that people can smell, and touch, and taste, and enjoy. Also, it’s a moment to educate and engage. It all circles back to building community. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? I am originally from the Rochester NY area and loved south in October 2017 so our daughter could attend the College of Charleston. I am a full time speech therapist as well as the owner and chef of Uprooted, Vegan Cusine. Uprooted offers the CSRA’s only mobile all plant-based meal and dessert service. From our customized horse trailer at events to catering, Grab and Go and a weekly meal prep, we can meet all your needs. We believe in community over competition and by using what is local to us we support our community who in turn supports our community. We take vegan to a new level, breaking the stereotypes that vegan dining doesn’t satiate you. We offer an everchanging menu because we use what is seasonal. From our signature Bloody Mary Burger and creative tacos to oversized cupcakes and the best peanut butter cookies around at events as well as well-appointed salads, custom cakes and curries. We make all our dishes using the power of plants sourced from local farmers. Most of the menu can be or is designed gluten free or be adapted for other allergens as well because everyone deserves to eat great meals and treats.We also focus on reducing waste. Using bulk with minimal packaging, reusing boxes and baskets for deliveries, compostable containers and reducing food waste with our partnership with the TooGoodToGo app. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?When i was in high school i dreamt of going to art school but my father wouldn’t let pursue it, instead encouraging me to select a career to make an incline and use art as a passion. I now have proved my father wrong and use food as my medium. I create eye-catching dishes and photos to draw you in because you eat with your eyes first. I draw inspiration for recipes from the world around me, including produce from vendors, current food trends and interactions from customers. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I was diagnosed with renal failure in 2004, became vegan in 2013 to improve my kidney function and bought myself 8 years of quality family time and travel experiences before electing Peritoneal dialysis. The various restaurants, boutiques appear to support one another while outdoor spaces are used for creative events, drawing people to the area. Even if they don’t make a purchase thank them for stopping and checking your items out. I love to create eyecatching and appealing dishes to draw in the most skeptical of diners. BAKERS MANN sweet + savory soft pretzels @mybakersmann @mybakersmann mybakersmann.com Meet The maker WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?Baker’s Mann is a small veteran-owners, husband and wife-operated, pretzel bakery. We started off in our home in North Augusta, SC and in early 2023 we moved to BaseOps Kitchen in Augusta, GA. We specialize in all things soft pretzels; from traditional soft pretzels to our new pretzels rolls (ei. ham and smoked gouda and philly cheesesteak) we have an ever expanding menu. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.We use high quality ingredients with zero preservatives. We stick to the traditional method of bathing our pretzels in a low lye concentrated bath just before baking. This allows for a process called caramelizing to give a beautiful mahogany, slightly crispy crust, and a soft, moist chewy inside. As the pretzel bakes this process takes place and the lye disappears and turns the starch on the surface to maltose so we can eat them without getting a tummy ache. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” 2 Corinthians 5:17. Baking is a beautiful visual representation of this. We take several ingredients that, when brought together, form this brand new, beautiful, delicious creation that is pleasing to the creator and has a designed purpose. I get use skills and resources provided by my Father in Heaven to do well for Him just like a child wants to do well and make Mommy and Daddy smile. When I have free reign to bake and create whatever I want, I draw inspiration from shabby-chic patterns and 1950’s-inspired pastel florals. The girlier, the better! In fact, my Kirchen Aid mixer is bubblegum pink! But I also take inspiration from what’s trending on Pinterest or In the cake decorating world. Lately, unicorns have taken over, which is fine by me! My dad is a pencil and water color artist and my mom is a fantastic baker, so I love getting to combine both elements into being a cake decorator! Since then I’ve been doing a lot of volunteer work and in 2020 decided to establish Bubba’s Fudge and Nuts, LLC so I could sell my fudge to the public. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.I make each batch of fudge, about 8-10 hunks/jars personally. Over the years I have developed about 60 flavors and we offer about 16-20 flavors at any one time. We specialize in helping our customers by providing a complete service option, taking your mailing list, making the fudge, packaging it, (we offer gift boxes and gift cards) and shipping it for you. Less for you to worry about, let us handle it, start to finish. We can also work with you for your business by adding your business cards, labels, etc. for a customized appearance. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?Being able to use the business to give back to help support those in need. We support (with our time and financially) Project Life, offering free food and clothing with a loving attitude, on Gordon Highway. Cooper Ridge Farm which helps special needs children/individuals learn various skills to help improve their lives. We also support other organizations as needs arise (Resolute Ministries, BSA) and as we are led to participate. I make handmade chocolate bars and caramel sauce with the mission to “take a bite out of childhood hunger one bar at a time!” We accomplish this by donating approximately 15% of my profits to feed at-risk children meals via the backpack program at Golden Harvest Food Bank. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.I make chocolate bars and caramel sauce the old-fashion way, by hand using as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. After tempering the chocolate, I dose the chocolate into moulds and hand place the ingredients into the chocolate. I then vibrate the moulds to level out the chocolate before letting the bars cool. Then I break the bars out of the moulds, package them, seal them, and then label each bar. Each step of my chocolate making process is done by hand with care and love. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?I love to create chocolate bars that are not only tantalizing to your eyes, but also to your taste buds. I look forward to each day keeping in mind the bars I make will help to feed a local area child in need. I also like to interact with my customers resulting in a lot of them becoming friends as well as customers FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.Given the artwork on my labels was done by my children, I like to joke around that I’m the father to 3 of the most famous artists in the world. At the ages of 8, 9 and 12 they have each already sold over 12,000 pieces of artwork and their artwork has bent sent to over 7 different countries that I know about.
