STAINED GLASS BY KALEIGH
STAINED GLASS BY KALEIGH stained glass suncatchers with 90-100% recycled or found materials Meet The Maker WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?Hi, all! I’m Kaleigh. I was born and raised in Maryland but, as an Army vet, I’ve lived all over the country. I recently transplanted to Grovetown, GA from Boulder, CO in May 2023. By day, I work full time as a Marriage and Family Therapist. By night, along with all of my other crafty hobbies, I make stained glass pieces out of my home office/garage. I’ve been working with glass for about a year. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.I believe myself to be pretty eco-conscious and I make every effort to ensure all of the crafting I do, not just glass, is done in conscious way. Because glass is made from sand and sand is not a renewable resource, I don’t purchase newly manufactured glass in order to lessen my environmental impact in the arts and craft world. This means that all of my pieces are made with 100% recycled/reused/discarded glass, and 90-100% recycled, reused, or found materials. This also means that every piece is 100% unique and, when I run out and can’t find anymore recycled glass, I can’t make anything else! WHAT INSPIRES YOU?Color. I love to wear neutrals or all black, but my home and the art that I gravitate to is full of color. The vibrance of colorful glass is really what gravitates me to work with this material. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I was a beekeeper when I lived in Colorado! FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.Nightlife, appreciation of arts & culture. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?I am a finished product type of person. With the majority of my life and work, I have to trust the process and follow through with things not knowing what the end state will be, or if there will even be an end/resolution. With making, I get to define what “done” means and looks like, and that’s incredibly satisfying. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?Don’t worry about starting over. I’ve ripped apart projects that were almost finished because I wasn’t happy with how they were turning out. Very rarely does pushing through, settling, or “grinning and bearing it” produce fruitful results. Truly, this applies to making and life in general. All of my pieces are priced on set sliding scale (price range provided in my booth), no questions asked model. I truly believe that makers should be paid what they’re worth AND folks should have access to pretty things. I’ve tried to strike that balance with my sliding scale in the best way I could. I also have a “recycle” program with the intent to keep art and usable materials out of the landfill. If you ever get tired of the piece you purchased (I mean, we’ve all gotten tired of something after we bought it, haven’t we?), you can return it to me in its original condition and get a discount on another item/custom piece (based on availability of glass, of course). MARSH FLOWERS
MARSH FLOWERS crocheted stuffed animals @marshflowerstudio themarshflower.com Meet The Maker WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?I am a mom of 4 currently residing near Savannah, GA. I crochet all kinds of things but mostly stuffed animals. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.I crochet and sew together pieces to create adorable stuffed animals, baskets, scarves, bags, and blankets. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?Color is my biggest inspiration! I love to walk down an aisle of yarn and pick out a hot pink for an anteater, or a soft green for a baby’s alligator. Making animals that you don’t normally see in stores is a passion, and making animals in colors that you wouldn’t expect makes me the happiest! FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I love to spend lazy days walking under the oak trees with Spanish moss blowing in the breeze. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?When I am making my crochet stuffed animals or any of the other crafts I do, I just feel at peace and happy. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?My oldest tells me I say this too much but… You have to practice and keep at it if you want to get better. I learned how to crochet from my grandmother and great grandmother. Though they are no longer with me I think they would be proud of what I am making. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE
T MADERA
T MADERA wearable art and home accessories @irockmadera Meet The Maker WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?Hello. I am Tiffany of T Madera a collector, curator, and crafter. I am a native of Augusta and currently reside in Atlanta, GA. I create wearable art and home accessories. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.My process is a mixture of Media and Collage created with love, care and a flare of creativity. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?My collecting and creative inspiration has its roots in the school and home. Growing up in Augusta, I remember collecting dolls and entering them in the Richmond Country Doll Shows at the Recreation Center. I once created a collage that won an award while in grade school and by the time I was in high school, I had collected numerous dolls that were given to me as presents which represented different countries all over Central America, Europe and Africa. I later enrolled in Art History and Ceramic classes at Hampton University; and my Instructor, Ampofo-Anti, told me the incising on my hand-constructed piece reminded him of Adinkra symbols used by the Akan people in West Africa. Little did I know that later in 2013, I would have the opportunity to travel to Ghana and experience stamping an Adinkra symbol on turquoise and green woven cloth that I would use on my present-day dining room buffet, as well as on my front door. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I love jewelry! Three of my most treasured pieces of jewelry were given to me by my mother. These included a handcrafted sterling silver pendant, a bracelet and a ring signed by Dave B. My mother purchased these handcrafted items from Eclectic Design Gallery located in Augusta, GA. I loved the collection of art, jewelry and furniture featured in Andrea Stanton’s business that was in Downtown Augusta in the 90s. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.My favorite things about Downtown Augusta are Artist Row and going to the Westobou and Arts in Heart Festivals. I love the way Art is expressed in different businesses. 1. I see Art in the beautiful hats at Nan’s Collections, Augusta, Georgia 2. I love the beautiful floral designs and arrangements created at Nyias Gallery, Augusta, GA WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?At the heart of every design and my desire to make and create has always been the family, godparents and teachers that have shared their loving gifts with me over the years. I have observed how my family and neighbors have personally designed and crafted items for the home as well as items to be worn. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?When creating something – “Go with the flow! Always and foremost, just go with the flow! There are never, ever mistakes; just reflect, regroup and go for it!” I am very grateful for family, teachers and churches that have provided inspiration and outlets for me through experience, art, and travel. I am eternally grateful and blessed. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE
