SEA & SKY TRINKETS

SEA AND SKY TRINKETS AND TREASURES local art – mixed media @sea.and.sky.trinkets Meet The artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?Hi, I’m Ellie! I’m from Augusta, lived my whole life here. I’m a graphic designer, and love to try my hand at a wide variety of art, whether it’s sculpting, drawing, blockprinting, painting, collage, or anything else I can get my hands on! DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.Typically it starts with me seeing a video of some type of art I want to try being made, and then gathering supplies and going for it! From there it’s a lot of trial and error until I get the feel for it.One thing that I love to do for some of my blockprinting is to sketch animals I see at zoos, or my pets, and then transfer those sketches to carving material, and turning them into stamps I can put on cards or patches! As for my polymer clay sculpting, I like to try and hand mix a color, and then use that color as a base for what the creature will be, the colors of the accent scales and anything else, and let it take a life of its own.My collages are very much a matter of first laying down a background color or pattern with the old paper I’ve collected. Once that first layer is dry, I try and decide on a loose idea for a theme or object that will be the centerpiece, and find the paper I have that most closely has the color or patterning I need to give the shading or illusion of shading I’m looking for, and then honing in from there. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?My mom is a photographer, and I grew up learning about light and color and how they interact with one another, and how to use that to create what you see in your mind, and I feel like that mindset influences, inspires and touches everything I do today in art. I also take a lot of inspiration from nature, especially the ocean, and birds. I love biology, and use a lot of my free time learning things about it that I didn’t learn in school. Whether I am creating things about fantasy or real animals, that love for biology deeply influences and inspires the way I think about my art and what I create. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I’ve been keeping chickens since I was 12, and also have gotten into freshwater aquariums and aquascaping recently! I have 4 tanks with a lovely variety and they bring me a lot of joy. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.I love the shops and art so much! It’s so lovely to come down on a Saturday, grab some food from the market, and then take a walk along the river, and by the murals, and then over to the Book Tavern, Three Crows, and Art on Broad. The food is delicious, and I always find neat things and get to talk to fun, interesting people in the shops! WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?I’ve always been making and creating things as long as I can remember. It’s so deeply satisfying to hone a skill and create something that can make people feel things, even if it’s just a quiet and simple joy. I also absolutely love to figure out how things are done, and to create my own process for doing them, if it’s something I want to try. It helps satisfy my curiosity about life and how everything works! WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?Don’t feel like you have to box yourself in by how you’ve always done something, or what you’ve always created! Even if it’s something you don’t make for someone else, or to sell, just try something new and different, even if you think you’ll be bad at it. It can give you a new perspective on your primary artforms, or turn out to be a new thing you love! RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE

I was born in Hawaii, grew up in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia area). I later moved to Georgia, and retired from the military in the Augusta area. I am an artist, painter, muralist, and digital comic book illustrator. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. I love doing fan art from sci-fi movies especially anything Star Wars. Other things I like to paint are about family and spiritual themes. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. Fun fact and not so fun fact about me: I am an artist that is partially colorblind, so I may use bold primary colors or mostly black and white in my artwork. I was hospitalized when I was 4 yrs old, because of a gunshot wound to the right leg, so I spent a lot of time alone in the hospital recovering, and drawing and creating while I was there. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. My favorite parts of downtown are the creative spaces. The Georgia Cyber Center and theClubhou.se, where I spend most of my time getting my artwork done, and interacting with other creatives. The other spots are the great restaurants around the area. The Humanitree House has both good food and awesome creatives to hang out with when they have their events! WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? Designing and creating is one way I like to relax. I like to design and create for myself and for others. I love to see peoples reactions when they see some of the things I have drawn. BOPER9

BOPER9 original art prints @boper9 boper9.carrd.co Meet The artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO? I am Boper9, I am from Nashville, TN but have been local to augusta for nearly a decade now, and I am a comic artist turned illustrator who makes commissioned artwork. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. I make various illustrations, usually figure focused, in a mix of traditional and digital medias, usually with contour lines and simple colors. I scan, digitally process, and make my art prints at home. Occasionally I will use my printer to make other merch such as stickers and temporary tattoos, but as a last-minute-fill-in this year those things won’t be on the menu. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? Comics. Art that is meant to communicate many concepts and themes at once, often ones that are clearer in image than they would be explained out in words, sentences. Dramatic scenes in well-art-directed movies. Comfortable seating in art museums. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. I replaced the high voltage battery in my generation-2 Prius. I also like doing easy plug-&-play hardware upgrades to computers (processors excluded because thermal paste intimidates me). FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. Book Tavern. Library. The view from the tall parts of the riverwalk. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? Love is less the word for me; it’s more like ‘feel compelled to’. I think I will always be making art in some capacity. It just makes me happier when people like the results and I don’t have to divide my time between making art, which is a essential function I must do, and working at something non-intrinsic to make money. I like talking to people about the subjects of my art, often times fanart of fictions I enjoy. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? Understanding the techniques and technical specifications of how your merchandise is produced is very valuable, even if you don’t handle the production yourself. The more you can set up your art to be smoothly sent off to the manufacturer, the less stress you’ll have worrying about or receiving a wildly innacurate or unintentional version of your product. I love designing cute art prints, greeting cards, and have just completed my first book project! DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. My creative process starts with inspiration—from colors I spot in everyday life to retro design, vintage illustrations, flowers, and animals. Once a piece is finished, I print it into different products. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? ’m inspired by color and texture—there’s something magical about finding unexpected combinations that sing when placed side by side. Creating is a joyful challenge for me—there’s always something new I want to try, a fresh idea I want to explore. I’m endlessly driven to keep making, pushing myself to grow and evolve. While I love seeing a finished piece come to life, it’s the process—the experimenting, the problem-solving, the flow—that truly lights me up. If I had all the free time in the world, I’d still choose to draw and design, so getting to do what I love and earn a living from it feels like such a gift. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? For me, the joy of making is everything. I try to protect that joy—to create without letting the pressure to profit overshadow the process. I always come back to the idea that even if no one else ever saw a piece I made, I’d still feel fulfilled just by making it. That sense of personal satisfaction and completion keeps me grounded. When you truly love your work, it matters less whether someone else likes it—because the joy was already in the making. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE
