FETE

FETE clean cocktail infusions @drinkfete @drinkfete drinkfete.com Meet The Artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?I was born & raised in Rome, GA, and moved to Savannah, GA for a job after majoring in Chemistry at Georgia Southern (Go Eagles!). After working at a chemical plant for 3 years, I decided to leave the lab & focus on my businesses – and I’ve never looked back! If you’re ever in the Savannah area, you can find me running back & forth between my three businesses: Fête + Superbloom + Starland Strange and Bazaar! At Fête we create cocktail infusions which is a clean & creative way to enjoy your favorite cocktail without the added dyes, preservatives, and artificial sweeteners! Pour your liquor into one of our infusions, let it sit for at least 2 days, enjoy over ice or be your own bartender and create a craft cocktail at home! DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.We have a production space in the Starland District in Savannah, GA. All of our ingredients are sourced locally or from small family farms. We hand bottle, label, and wax dip each infusion in our production space! When developing a new flavor, our shop looks like a chemistry lab with jars and notes everywhere until we find the perfect recipe! WHAT INSPIRES YOU?I hope Fête encourages people to gather again. I am inspired by the cocktail parties and soirees of the 1950s and 1960s…before cell phones, pre internet, when there were not electronic distractions & everyone was truly present in the moment at the party. Host a dinner party, invite friends over for a game night, have a drink with a new coworker! FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I have at least 15 rings on my fingers at all times – even while sleeping or swimming! WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?I love to create an experience. I create new products, flavors, and businesses, so when others are out shopping and enjoying life, they have a new experience…any little thing to make their day brighter. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?Don’t be afraid to try something new! You will never know if it will work or not unless you try it out! I have tried things that were both a success and a *cough cough* ~failure~, but it was a learning experience as well. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE

BEE BOTTOM ART

BEE BOTTOM ART tiny art @staceybee.art beebottomart.com Meet The Artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?My name is Stacey Black and I am the owner of Bee Bottom Art. I live in Columbia, SC and I create miniature paintings that I sell at various markets around the state and surrounding areas. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.I create miniature scale paintings (always smaller than 3″ and usually smaller than 2″ – I enjoy creating pieces the size of a quarter!). When I am prepared to sit down and create, I sketch out my art on a tiny piece of watercolor paper. My next step is usually to ink out the sketch with a fine pen. Lastly, I watercolor paint. All of the color, you see in my paintings is watercolor but I do use black pen to get in some of those fine details. The question I get asked most often is, “How do you see so well?” The answer is, I don’t! I wear magnifiers to help me with the process. Once I have created my piece, I scan it, create a mat for it, and place it into a frame. I make high quality Giclee prints from my scans. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?I try to find peace in what I am painting so that I can be at peace in my head. Sometimes, nature inspires me and makes me feel peaceful. Sometimes its something spooky or funny that brings me peace. I really just go with what I am feeling at the very moment I put pencil to paper. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I had never painted until 2016 when I taught myself! WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?My head is a bit of a jungle sometimes and creating helps settle down those anxious thoughts. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?Just keep going. Your people are out there. They will find you and support you. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE

COSMIC FLOWER

COSMIC FLOWER vintage-inspired classics in the form of wearable art   @thecosmicflowershop @thecosmicflowershop thecosmicflowershop.com Meet The Artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO? My name is Kimber! I am the owner and artist behind Cosmic Flower, a handmade + vintage shop out of Lexington, SC. I create wearables and wares inspired by the midcentury collectibles in my shop. You can find Merry Mushroom canister earrings, tattooed Kewpie pins, Kit Cat clock earrings, and other vintage icons in our shop. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. My studio is filled with every medium you can imagine; though, I gravitate to making polymer clay earrings, rings, and pins. The wonderful thing about owning a creative based business is having the ability to explore new mediums and diversify your art. There are no rules in art! I keep sketchbooks and notes for new design ideas, which have opened a door to new upcoming products like stickers, greeting cards, and pocket mirrors. Each season I create a limited collection of art dolls or wall hangings, like my Skele-Kewpie dolls and framed Monster Kewpies. I admittedly use Kewpie as my subject often since my love for them has been strong since 1986! These handmade items vary according to supplies I have on-hand, such as vintage Kewpie dolls to mod. My home studio is filled with color swatches, pattern references, vintage items, prototypes, and curiosities that all lend themselves to my finished products. Most designs take several days from start to finish to make. For example, my best selling Merry Mushroom canister earrings take a week to complete. I start by conditioning the clay, cutting my shapes, and baking the pieces. Once they are cooled, I sand each piece, paint my outlines and remove the excess, then I hand-paint all the details. Once dried, I give a final cleaning, drill my holes, and assemble hardware. The cleaning and detail work is pain-staking, but I take great enjoyment out of it. Some designs require more detail work and attention than others. It gives me such joy to see my hard work appreciated by customers! Typically, I work on each stage en masse until I have 12 baking trays filled. One week will be pre-bake, the next week will be cleaning, the following will be outline work, etc. The painting stage usually takes two weeks. My products tend to sell quickly so my production time creates a larger quantity to keep up with supply. I would stay in my studio 24 hours a day if it were allowed and possible, lol. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? My process usually starts with a spark of inspiration from something I see in my day-to-day; it can be a fun colorway I see in a fashion magazine, a vintage toy on my shelf, or a funky 1970s flower pattern on a bedspread. Most of my inspiration comes from things that bring me joy, feel tongue-in-cheek silly, or have a playful aspect to them. A goal of mine is to bring a bit of colorful, lightheartedness the lives of others. It can be incredibly moving to see people respond to something you made with a bright smile on their face or giggle out loud. Life can be so rubbish at times, so finding things to spark joy are so important…even if they’re silly as can be. Cosmic Flower’s motto is “Vintage Style for Modern Folks” which is inspired by wanting to celebrate midcentury design while keeping modern ideals like inclusivity at the forefront. I find inspiration by the people around me, the causes I support, and the future I hope for. That inspiration takes form in small but important details like offering skin tone options in Kewpies and pin-up girl designs and using LGBTQ+ colors. Representation matters and knowing ALL my beautiful customers feel seen is a massive inspiration to me. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. + I used to be a caregiver at a chimpanzee sanctuary. Dirtiest and most fulfilling job I’ve ever had! + I have a huge collection of vintage squeak toys, rubber face plushes, and other toys from the 1930s-1960s. I am a sucker for midcentury anthropomorphic collectables! + Our little farm is full of dogs, cats, sheep, chickens, and ducks! They keep life interesting for sure! + My life as a photographer paved the way to adventures like tour photography, brand work for major companies, documentarian work, and a bit of fame for my street art portraits. I feel like I’ve lived many lives, and all through the lens of a camera. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA. I think the murals and street art have to be my favorite thing about downtown Augusta. Through art you can tell the story of a city. The colorful scenes sprinkled throughout the historic district is such a charming way to marry modern times with the past. Each visit to downtown I discover it a little more. I can’t wait to see what downtown Augusta shows me during my next visit! WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE? For the joy. Cosmic Flower was born from a rather dark time in my life. It was a moment I didn’t know if art would help, but it ended up healing me. From that point on I wanted to focus on creating things that brought joy into the world. Life is so short and precious, take the time to soak it up. Wear the silly Kewpie earrings, gift a silly pin to a friend that needs a smile, make the design that is so cheesy you’re almost embarrassed to share it with the world…the joy is worth it. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS? Find your voice! There are no shortage of artists and makers. Each medium is flooded with talent. But none of them are YOU. Don’t try to do what everyone else is doing, carve your own path. Keep your ear to the ground, but don’t follow trends to the

MACARTHUR WOODWORKS

MACARTHUR WOODWORKS resin & wood home decor & housewares @macarthurwoodwork @macarthurwoodworks Meet The Artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?Hey, I’m Michael Meeks! The “MacArthur” in my business name comes from my middle name. I’m the 3rd in a line of MMM initials with the middle name MacArthur. My wife, Emily, and I just made the 4th MMM with our son, Madison MacArthur Meeks! I’m from Warner Robins, GA and moved to Augusta in 2016 and have loved it ever since. I teach first grade at Martinez Elementary School and started my business on the side DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.I love to work with the client to determine exactly what they want. I mostly make resin charcuterie boards, so I’ll explain my process with those. I start with a live edge slab of wood and make sure the bark is removed in all areas. I flatten the wood on both sides and get the surfaces parallel. I then cut the wood and square it up to match my resin mold. I calculate how much resin I will need by converting cubic inches to ounces. Then I mix my preferred pigment into the resin and pour it. I wait 3 days for the resin to cure, and then pop it out of the mold. I plane the board, and then begin my sanding process. I usually chamfer the edges of the board and water pop between a few grits. I then soak them in Walrus Oil and wait 24 hours. I wipe off the excess oil and then wax them. Then it’s photoshoot time! WHAT INSPIRES YOU? I love creating for other people. By making them a piece of furniture or whatever it might be, it’s a way of serving and loving them well. It’s an awesome feeling to make something with your hands. FUN FACT ABOU FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I love to make lists! FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.I enjoy the wide variety of local restaurants the most. You can’t beat eating at Whiskey Bar after church on Sunday and then popping over to Boll Weevil for a heavenly slice of cake! WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?I have been blessed with a gift to use creativity in a few different ways. When I create resin charcuterie boards, it appeals to both sides of my brain: I get to create the design of the board and use the exciting colors of resin, and I also get to calculate just enough math and use machinery to entertain the other side of my brain. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?I don’t know if I’m wise enough to give advice, but I’d say to create what makes you and others happy. It’s amazing to be able to see the look on people’s face when you create something with your hands for them. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE
