THROUGH TELESCOPE EYES

THROUGH TELESCOPE EYES handmade jewelry and trinkets @throughtelescopeeyes Etsy Shop Meet The maker WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?My name is Kaitlin Crawford. I’m from Grovetown, GA. I hand make polymer clay jewelry and trinkets with a wide variety of designs and styles. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.With polymer clay, you first have to condition the clay and mix colors to find the one you want. Most designs start with a cutter to ensure some consistency, but then I add my own touch using hand sculpting techniques. After it’s ready, it has to bake. Some items require layering and multiple bakes and other need a finish of resin. Then they get the edges cleaned, holes drilled, and hypoallergenic finishes attached. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?I take inspiration from everything! I am a big fan of dopamine dressing and creating jewelry I always dreamed of owning. I look at current pop culture trends and looks from my childhood. I also take from nature and books. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I started learning polymer clay so I could make my best friend a custom pair of earrings for her wedding in 2022. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.I love supporting local and seeing downtown grow. Nacho Mama’s is my favorite eating spot before exploring and finishing up with a slice of cake from Boll Weevil. I also loved all the old trees and hope to see new ones. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?My goal from the start was always to bring joy and a smile to peoples faces. This work has been far more rewarding and healing than I could have ever imagined. I am truly overwhelmed when someone resonates with my work and wears it to present their most authentic self to the world. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?Don’t stress to much. Especially at the beginning. Just make what you want to see in the world and you will find your people. Also talk to as many people as you can and build a community. I am always open to suggestions and commissions. I’ve gotten some of my best ideas from chats at markets! But more importantly, markets have also brought me some great friendships, so stop by and say hi! RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE
THE SOUTHERN OYSTER CO.

THE SOUTHERN OYSTER CO. COASTAL HOME DECOR @thesouthernoysterco Etsy Shop Meet The maker WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?I’m Sarah May Smith, the artist and founder behind The Southern Oyster Co., based in Augusta, Georgia. My work draws from the quiet beauty of the coast and the timeless charm of the South. I love taking something simple and natural — like an oyster shell — and transforming it into a piece that feels personal and enduring. Whether I’m designing gilded oyster jewelry or crafting a set of napkin rings inspired by a certain local golf course, I approach each piece as a small work of art — a reminder that beauty can be found in what the sea leaves behind. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.Each piece begins with a sustainably sourced oyster shell, carefully chosen for its natural shape and texture. I apply my original designs printed on delicate rice paper, finish each one with hand-gilded gold leaf, and seal it with a clear, enduring finish. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?I’m endlessly inspired by the quiet beauty of the coast — the colors of the sea, the shimmer of sunlight on water, and the sense of calm that drifts in with the tide. I love creating pieces that capture that feeling and bring it into everyday life — jewelry and décor that feel refined yet natural, elegant yet easy to wear or display. Each design begins with something simple and real — an oyster shell shaped by the sea — and becomes a small work of art meant to be cherished. My hope is that every piece carries a bit of that coastal serenity and Southern grace wherever it goes. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.Fun fact: I’m a mom of five — including two sets of twins! There’s never a dull moment in our house, and I think that joyful chaos inspires a lot of my creativity. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.Downtown Augusta has a charm all its own — a mix of history, creativity, and community that I find endlessly inspiring. I love that it’s big enough to feel vibrant but still small enough to feel like home. It’s a place where Southern hospitality meets creative energy, and I’m so grateful to share my work in a community that values both tradition and artistry. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?Creating has always been where I find calm and joy — it’s the space where my hands can be busy and my heart can be still. I love the process of turning something simple into something special, of watching a plain shell become a small work of art. Designing, making, and creating allow me to pour beauty, meaning, and intention into everyday life. It’s deeply fulfilling to know that something I’ve made can bring a bit of light, warmth, or memory into someone else’s home. That’s what keeps me creating — the chance to make something that feels personal, lasting, and full of heart. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?Just go for it! Follow what inspires you and run with it. RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE

SEA & SKY TRINKETS

SEA AND SKY TRINKETS AND TREASURES local art – mixed media @sea.and.sky.trinkets Meet The artist WHO ARE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU FROM, & WHAT DO YOU DO?Hi, I’m Ellie! I’m from Augusta, lived my whole life here. I’m a graphic designer, and love to try my hand at a wide variety of art, whether it’s sculpting, drawing, blockprinting, painting, collage, or anything else I can get my hands on! DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.Typically it starts with me seeing a video of some type of art I want to try being made, and then gathering supplies and going for it! From there it’s a lot of trial and error until I get the feel for it.One thing that I love to do for some of my blockprinting is to sketch animals I see at zoos, or my pets, and then transfer those sketches to carving material, and turning them into stamps I can put on cards or patches! As for my polymer clay sculpting, I like to try and hand mix a color, and then use that color as a base for what the creature will be, the colors of the accent scales and anything else, and let it take a life of its own.My collages are very much a matter of first laying down a background color or pattern with the old paper I’ve collected. Once that first layer is dry, I try and decide on a loose idea for a theme or object that will be the centerpiece, and find the paper I have that most closely has the color or patterning I need to give the shading or illusion of shading I’m looking for, and then honing in from there. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?My mom is a photographer, and I grew up learning about light and color and how they interact with one another, and how to use that to create what you see in your mind, and I feel like that mindset influences, inspires and touches everything I do today in art. I also take a lot of inspiration from nature, especially the ocean, and birds. I love biology, and use a lot of my free time learning things about it that I didn’t learn in school. Whether I am creating things about fantasy or real animals, that love for biology deeply influences and inspires the way I think about my art and what I create. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I’ve been keeping chickens since I was 12, and also have gotten into freshwater aquariums and aquascaping recently! I have 4 tanks with a lovely variety and they bring me a lot of joy. FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.I love the shops and art so much! It’s so lovely to come down on a Saturday, grab some food from the market, and then take a walk along the river, and by the murals, and then over to the Book Tavern, Three Crows, and Art on Broad. The food is delicious, and I always find neat things and get to talk to fun, interesting people in the shops! WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?I’ve always been making and creating things as long as I can remember. It’s so deeply satisfying to hone a skill and create something that can make people feel things, even if it’s just a quiet and simple joy. I also absolutely love to figure out how things are done, and to create my own process for doing them, if it’s something I want to try. It helps satisfy my curiosity about life and how everything works! WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?Don’t feel like you have to box yourself in by how you’ve always done something, or what you’ve always created! Even if it’s something you don’t make for someone else, or to sell, just try something new and different, even if you think you’ll be bad at it. It can give you a new perspective on your primary artforms, or turn out to be a new thing you love! RETURN TO VENDOR PAGE
