I start by mixing raw concrete—an unassuming, industrial material—with pigments, botanicals, or bits of shimmer that speak to the piece I want to create. Whether I’m casting a small pot, a statement earring, or a minimalist coaster, I pour with purpose and an eye for texture and balance. Once poured, each piece is left to cure slowly—this part reminds me to be patient, to trust the transformation. After curing, I sand and polish by hand, revealing subtle patterns, marbling, or air pockets that make each creation perfectly imperfect. No two pieces are ever the same. That’s the beauty of handmade. Every item holds the imprint of my hands, the rhythm of my day, and a little piece of nature’s whimsy. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? My name is Karley, I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. I moved to Savannah, GA 3 years ago, and I fell in love with the artist community there. Art has always been my passion. For most of my life painting has been my go-to. Recently, I’ve found my love for ceramics again. Now I’m on a new journey bringing my love of painting and creating, and putting that inspiration into detailed functional art in small batch, one of a kind ceramic collections. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS. My ceramics are fun creations of my imagination and a lot of family history. My Nonna Kathrine was a talented artist, as was her grandmother. My Nonna gifted me her Nonna’s hand-made tatted lace, and I incorporate that into a lot of my pieces as texture. To me, it honors my Italian family heritage and the artists in my family before me. To me It’s a more modern functional way to display and showcase a lost art. WHAT INSPIRES YOU? I’m inspired by love for mountains, ocean, plants, and texture and turning those passions into detailed functional art in small batch, one of a kind ceramic collections. My hope is for everyone to find a piece of my art that speaks to them, and serves a purpose, be that just sparking joy or its functionality. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU. I hand paint everything I make. Nothing is ever dipped in a vat of glaze. Every piece has brush strokes from my own hands. I’m very inspired by my family from Tricarico, IT. and you will likely see much of that inspiration in scenes of Southern Italy. With handpainted lemons or Burano lace texture. I’m a pretty practical person, so I really enjoy making functional ceramics that are also fine art. I was born and raised in Maryland but, as an Army vet, I’ve lived all over the country. I recently transplanted to Grovetown, GA from Boulder, CO in May 2023. By day, I work full time as a Marriage and Family Therapist. By night, along with all of my other crafty hobbies, I make stained glass pieces out of my home office/garage. I’ve been working with glass for about a year. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.I believe myself to be pretty eco-conscious and I make every effort to ensure all of the crafting I do, not just glass, is done in conscious way. Because glass is made from sand and sand is not a renewable resource, I don’t purchase newly manufactured glass in order to lessen my environmental impact in the arts and craft world. This means that all of my pieces are made with 100% recycled/reused/discarded glass, and 90-100% recycled, reused, or found materials. This also means that every piece is 100% unique and, when I run out and can’t find anymore recycled glass, I can’t make anything else! WHAT INSPIRES YOU?Color. I love to wear neutrals or all black, but my home and the art that I gravitate to is full of color. The vibrance of colorful glass is really what gravitates me to work with this material. FUN FACT ABOUT YOU.I was a beekeeper when I lived in Colorado! FAVORITE THING ABOUT DOWNTOWN AUGUSTA.Nightlife, appreciation of arts & culture. WHY DO YOU LOVE TO DESIGN, CREATE + MAKE?I am a finished product type of person. With the majority of my life and work, I have to trust the process and follow through with things not knowing what the end state will be, or if there will even be an end/resolution. With making, I get to define what “done” means and looks like, and that’s incredibly satisfying. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD SHARE WITH OTHER ARTISTS + MAKERS?Don’t worry about starting over. I’ve ripped apart projects that were almost finished because I wasn’t happy with how they were turning out. Very rarely does pushing through, settling, or “grinning and bearing it” produce fruitful results. Truly, this applies to making and life in general. All of my pieces are priced on set sliding scale (price range provided in my booth), no questions asked model. I truly believe that makers should be paid what they’re worth AND folks should have access to pretty things. I’ve tried to strike that balance with my sliding scale in the best way I could. I also have a “recycle” program with the intent to keep art and usable materials out of the landfill. If you ever get tired of the piece you purchased (I mean, we’ve all gotten tired of something after we bought it, haven’t we?), you can return it to me in its original condition and get a discount on another item/custom piece (based on availability of glass, of course). I am a nurse, a reiki master, a meditation teacher and an artist. My art is inspired by what I see hiking on local trails. I make dream catchers, pine needle baskets, witch bells and intention dolls. DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS.I gather pine needles while hiking; only the best needles will do! I seal them in vegetable glycerin and let them dry. I use waxed cord and a darning needle to hand stitch the basket together. The process can take a few hours to several days depending on how large or detailed the basket is. WHAT INSPIRES YOU?Nature!
